Wind Turbine Manual to Build and Save Money on Energy

Wind Turbine Manual to Build and Save Money on Energy
By Charles Baker
Everyday the global demands for energy are increasing. This increased demand leads to increased energy prices. Energy prices will continue to sky rocket in the near future. So what can you do about your rising energy bill? Build a homemade wind turbine and save hundreds every month. You’ll have a fun little weekend project that you’ll be proud of.

How Wind Turbines Work

Wind is the power source for wind turbines. Wind is created here on earth by the unequal heating of the earths surface due to the constant rotation. The blades on a wind turbine can catch the kinetic energy of the wind to turn the propellers. These propellers then turn a shaft inside a generator that creates an electrical current. The electrical current is transfered to an electrical control system which sends the power to the battery supply pack. Then an inverter sends the energy to your houses electrical control system to be used as needed. Unused energy can actually be sold back to the energy company. Imagine them sending you money for a change.

You’ll need a bunch of parts for your wind turbine. A generator, tower, turbine, rotating mount, batteries, and an inverter will be needed. I highly recommend getting a detailed wind turbine manual to streamline the whole process. A detailed manual will illustrate the entire process step-by-step and give you a complete parts list and where to get them. I have seen wind projects go upside down because they used a poor generator or poor electrical control system. Building a wind generator does not have to be difficult.

As fuel demands continue to rise around the world you’ll be saving hundreds of dollars every month by building your own wind turbine. Imagine what you could do with that extra money? Wind energy is the wave of the future so be the first in your neighborhood to have one.

Learn about how I easily made my own wind turbine and saved hundreds of dollars every year. Avoid spending thousands of dollars on wind turbine systems. My homemade wind turbine and manual can be found at MyHomeEnergy.org

Yet Another Chinese Car Flunks a Crash Test

Yet Another Chinese Car Flunks a Crash Test
By Matthew Keegan
China would like to be the next Japan when it comes to mass producing low cost automobiles and shipping these vehicles to the world market. If the Brilliance BS6 is any indication of what China plans on exporting, then this won’t be happening anytime soon - the BS6 (is the name appropriate, or what?!) flunked a German crash test recently, scoring only a 1 out of possible 5 stars when tested.

Certain Death For Crash Occupants

According to Reuters:

“In the event of a side crash, the strain on the driver’s chest and abdominal area would be so high that a person would have little chance of surviving in a real accident,” it said of test results for the Brilliance BS6 model.

This is the second Chinese vehicle to flunk German crash tests as the Jiangling Landwind, an SUV, had previously failed a similar test. In addition, the Chery QQ, a subcompact car that stole the design of the Chevrolet (Daewoo) Spark, miserably flunked a separate crash test in 2006.

Not Ready For Prime Time

Let’s face it: when it comes to producing any consumer goods, most of the products coming from China are of abysmal quality. It’s one thing to put up with a toy that doesn’t last, but an automobile that cannot protect its occupants is simply unacceptable.

Let’s hope that the Brilliance sedan, slated to arrive in the US later this year, isn’t the same model that recently flunked the German crash tests. Otherwise, we should prepare for a sharp increase in highway carnage when the cars are sold in America.
Update
The first test for the aptly named Brilliance BS 6 was held in June 2007, but a second test was undertaken in September 2007 where the crast test score improved from 1 to 3. Not a disaster, but still below industry acceptable standards — don’t expect this model to appear stateside any time soon.

What is Green Building?

What is Green Building?
By Brian Schmidt
Green Building or Green construction can be comprised of many different “green” facets. Even the way a contractor operates can add a green value to his construction projects.

An R-2000 home for example is a type of green construction because of its energy efficiency.

A pre-engineered steel building is a type of green construction because this type of building minimises construction waste. Steel buildings in general are green by protecting our forests and being totally recyclable.

A contractor who diverts waste from landfill to recycling is a type of green builder. Designers and owners who go the extra mile in energy conservation and design are contributors to green building as well.

There are of course different sets of standards that constitute green construction as well. Most well known of these would be the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program. This program has very rigid sets of standards which – if achieved – can afford the building a silver or gold rating.

There is even an on-line tool for owners and designers to do an audit of their facilities and designs to rate them against best practices and standards for green architecture. Dubbed Green Globes, The tool was developed in Canada and is used increasingly in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada.

As you can see, we can all do our little bit to be contributors to green building. In today’s worl, we should all do our share. By being energy conscious and reducing waste our building world will be a little “greener.”

Why UK Drivers Can No Longer Simply Scrap Their Old Car
By Richard M Jenkins
Every year in Britain over two million vehicles reach the end of their life. Each one of these vehicles contains an average of twenty two liters of hazardous waste products. Unfortunately less than half of all scraped cars are recycled properly. This means that every year a great deal of toxic fluids are being left to seep into the environment.

Many drivers simply do not realize that they must go to an authorized treatment facility (ATF) to dispose of their old cars. ATF’s are sites which have been licensed by the Environment Agency in England & Wales, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency in Scotland or the Environment & Heritage Service in Northern Ireland, to de-pollute end of life vehicles to standards set by DEFRA (the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs). These site will issue a driver disposing of their car with a certificate of destruction. This proves that their car has been treated and recycled. Figures show that less than half of British drivers who dispose of their car currently obtain the certificate.

The End-of-Life Vehicles Directive which passed into European law in October 2000 and came into effect on 3 November 2003 states that all vehicles are de-polluted and all hazardous liquids are removed to prevent damage to the environment. These liquids are mainly engine oil, fuel, coolant, transmission oil, brake fluid and screenwash all of which can be incredible damaging to the environment.

With around a million scrapped cars incorrectly recycled per year this means a lot of harmful pollution continues to take place. This pollution will get worse as the numbers of vehicles on British roads increases. These hazardous fluids can find their way into the local eco-system damaging the local water supply and wildlife. However disposing of a car in the correct way is a simple process, one every driver should be aware of.
