Energy-Saving Tips For a Better Future
In this down economy, many people are no longer able to afford the luxury items that they once enjoyed because they are mostly spending their income on the basic necessities for daily living. On top of that, global warming and environment issues have increased prices, making it more difficult for people to pay for their bills and other necessities. In order for people to survive the economic and environmental situation, they need to save energy, their money and save the earth. By being aware of eco-friendly energy alternatives and living “green”, people can save more money in order to afford some luxury and leisure items as well as saving the planet.
Here are some tips to save energy:
1. During the summertime, do not turn on the air conditioner unless it is an unbearably hot temperature of thirty degrees Celsius or ninety degrees Fahrenheit and higher. If the temperature is less than that, open the windows and turn on fans to air out the house or apartment.
2. During the wintertime, do not turn on the heater unless it is very cold. Instead, make you environment warm and cozy by using your fireplace, wearing warm clothing, and cuddling with lots of blankets. And, if you have a mate and/or pets, it is more warm and cozy to cuddle with them.
3. Turn on lights only at night and when the room is being used. When the lights are on, use fluorescent lights or eco-friendly lights. Turn off other electronics, such as television, computer, and radio when not in use.
4. Use a renewable energy system that omits fossil fuels. Such fossil fuels include coal, oil, and natural gas, and they can emit carbon dioxide in the air. Renewable energy system includes biomass, small hydro, solar, wind, geothermal, tidal energy, or photovoltaic conversion system.
5. Do not use disposable items unless they are biodegradable. Instead, use a real camera, as well as plates, glass, cups and eating utensils that can be washed.
6. Recycle aluminum cans, glass bottles and jars, plastic and paper products, steel and tin cans, used motor oil, paint and batteries. Old electronics should be recycled since they contain lead and mercury, which can taint the soil and water. Thereby, poisoning drinking water as well as vegetation. Recycle car fluids, parts, batteries and accessories as well as auto bodies and tires. Recycle old compost to create your own fertilizer.
7. Use cotton and linen products because they do not emit VOCs to the air; and thereby, improving air quality. Organic cotton is a lot better because it does not use up petrochemicals.
8. Buy products in bulk or large boxes to save on packaging. Such bulk shopping can be found in warehouse stores, such as Costco.
9. Use cleaning products that do not have harsh chemicals and that are not scented.
10. Do not use foam products, such as cups, bowls, plates, and clamshell boxes, because they use up petrochemicals and they do not recycle well.
11. Use the machine washer/dryer and dishwasher after seven in the afternoon. Wash most of your clothes in cold water because hot weather uses up a lot of energy. So, wash in hot water at a minimum. When drying clothes, only place big, chunky, and thick pieces, like towels, sheets, jeans, sweats, blankets, robes and pajamas in the dryer with dryer balls in order to reduce the length of drying. Try to lay out smaller pieces of clothing as well as the delicate and gentle garments to air dry.
Therefore, saving energy leads to saving money and saving the planet. The three Rs, reduce, reuse and recycle as well as recycling aluminum, steel and tin cans, glass bottles and jars, and paper and plastic products can help people immensely conserve energy. Thereby, energy and environmental conservations can improve people’s lives and future by decreasing costs and saving the planet.
