Environment Technology – Going Green

Environment technology can be described as the application of environmental
sciences for the sake of sustainable development. There are diverse areas in
which environment technology is operational in one way or another.

Anaerobic digestion is a perfect environmental technology for waste management.
It works by producing green energy from waste materials and reduces CO2
emissions and other land-filled gases. Advancements in environmental
technologies have paved new ways for anaerobic digestion. Today, it is not only
used for reducing waste volumes but many useful by-products are also generated
from it.

Computers are one of the biggest environmental threats due to production and
disposal of its hardware and the power consumed by it. In April 2008, a public
computing company named Userful Corporation announced that their software saved
29,000 tons of CO2 emissions by allowing up to ten people to work from same
computer. This environment friendly step is equivalent of taking 5,000 cars off
the road and prevents electronic waste.

Determination of dry content of materials is really important in waste to energy
solutions. Many vacuum ovens are available in the market that reduce the drying
time by hours.

The old Jet printing ink systems by Simaco GmbH were sold in one-way containers
that were then disposed off. The multi-path tank system has increased the life
cycle of one-way containers from 600 to 1,800 operational hours. Simaco also
developed easily removable jet printing inks that provide more eco-compatible
cleaning. The rinse water of these inks can be re-processed and used for the
production of new colors.

The petrol engine steering by META Motoren und Energietechnik consumes less fuel
and produce less emissions. The use of this steering resulted in 20 percent
decrease of gasoline consumption, more than 20 percent of CO2 emissions and
about 60 percent of nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide emissions in the traffic
sector.

Heavy duty machinery used in manufacturing generates significant noise
pollution. We can control this noise pollution by keeping the machinery in sound
proof rooms. It can also be controlled by providing ear muffs to the workers to
guard their ears from the horrific impacts of noise pollution.

The above are some of the ways technology is being used to help the environment
and produce energy efficient products.
