How to Drink Coffee in a Green Way
Even in the smallest ways you can begin to adapt your lifestyle to a greener one. Being environmentally friendly is one of the main concerns for the majority of the global population right now. To some that may mean getting an hid conversion kit and changing all their car light bulbs to HID’s, to some others that may mean installing solar panels or driving a hybrid vehicle. But to the others that don’t have capabilities of spending the big bucks in order to live green, there are still tiny, daily behaviors that can be altered. If you make conscious decisions something as simple as drinking coffee can be a green action.
Here are some ways in which you can drink coffee in a green way.
1. Bring your coffee mug down to the café. Especially if you pour your Columbian supreme into your mug when you get upstairs, why not avoid wasting another Styrofoam cup and simply fill up your mug when you’re at the shop. This will help the café save on costs and you save the earth, one cup at a time.
2. If you happen to make a pot larger than you need, why not save the rest for the next day? If you get the right types of coffee the taste remains the same and in some cases its even better after a day of sitting. You can always have iced coffee with milk or simply reheat the day old coffee. Why would you just want to waste four perfectly good cups of coffee anyway? Skip dumping it down the sink and drink it the following day.
3. Buy your coffee from local co-ops that value the need to recycle and reuse. In ten cases out of ten, these coffee cooperatives use 100% recycled goods from packaging, to labeling, to shipping and receiving. In fact, some places such as this boycott the use of gas-guzzling vehicles and travel to your house by bike to deliver the goods each time. These co-ops demonstrate some of the most environmentally friendly services in our country today, why not spend a couple dollars more and save our earth?
