Green Living Green Energy

Green living entails using green technologies to produce green energy. Green technologies imply harnessing the eco-friendly natural resources like solar and wind power to produce energy in order conserve the earth and its environment.

Solar energy is one of the major sources of renewable energy. It involves using the power of Sun to generate energy. Solar energy is an ideal replacement for perishable energy resources like coal and petroleum that are being used for decades. The need for replacing the traditional energy resources arises because of the dwindling stocks of such energy and their harmful impact on earth’s eco-system. Major part of solar energy is absorbed by the water bodies like oceans and rivers and other processes like photosynthesis on the earth. Solar energy is utilized to produce water cycles, food and life sustaining atmosphere that is essential to support life on earth. Solar energy is now being utilized on daily basis to produce different forms of energy. Solar panels are used to convert the power from sun into electrical energy, which is then used to run different electrical appliances in the homes and the workplaces throughout the world. Solar panels are also used to convert the solar power into heat energy, which is then utilized to heat the water in the water heating systems like boilers and geysers. Solar cookers are used to convert the solar power into heat energy, which is then used for cooking and heating foods. Solar cookers are also utilized for heating and boiling water, pasteurization of milk and drying food items. The temperature generated by these cookers can range anywhere between 90 to 150 degrees celsius.

Wind energy is another clean and renewable source of energy that involves harnessing the power of wind. Large numbers of wind turbines are built throughout the world in order to capture the kinetic energy of wind, which is then converted to electrical energy to power industrial units and large residential areas. The latest technology called vertical axis wind turbines that just require to be pointed towards the wind’s direction in order to generate electricity for homes is gaining in popularity across the world. Home based wind energy system includes a wind turbine and generator that are mounted on top of the tower and the associated controls and equipments that are located in separate cabin. There are three wind energy systems that can be used for generating electricity for home. First is Off-Grid or Stand Alone system. This system is installed when your home is not connected to the grid. You will only use the electricity generated by the Off-Grid system. Second is Grid-Tied or On Grid system that comes with battery back up. With this system, you can use the power supplied by grid as well as electricity generated through the wind energy system. With battery back up you can store the energy and use it in case of a power outage. Third is Grid-Tied or On Grid system without battery back up. This works the same way as the second system except you can’t use it during the power outage as there is no back up system installed.

Solar energy and wind energy are the two clean and renewable sources of green energy that is essential for green living.

Help Save the Environment By Cycling

Riding a bicycle is a great way to contribute to the preservation of our eco system and environment here on our great planet earth. Many people are concerned with pollution and many other things that damage and dissolve the ozone and cause the atmosphere to be dirty. If we all contributed with one small thing that we can change in our daily living routines to help with the protection of the earth, perhaps we could, as a collective, make a substantial impact for the better.

One way to go green and contribute to the preservation of our environment is sometimes riding a bicycle instead of starting up the car or motorcycle. Driving and operating vehicles is one thing that many countless people do on a daily basis that harms the environment.

Exhaust from cars damages the ozone in a irreparable manner. What we do to the ozone negatively can not be repaired, which is why it is very important to do all that we can within our means to protect it. In addition to damaging the ozone, pollutants released by vehicles that run on combustion engines affects the health of human beings rather adversely.

Air pollutants damage not just the ozone layer, but also the lungs and respiratory systems of people. It can contribute to causing, or worsen, certain respiratory illnesses and diseases such as asthma, emphysema, COPD, and even pneumonia.

Do not get me wrong because I do believe that driving, in most cases, is a necessity of life in this modern age. However, if we just dedicated one day or one short route to the use of bicycles and cycling as a method of transportation, it can, in a small way, make a big difference to the health of humans and other living beings, and also the health of the our home, the earth.

Not only do we contribute to the well-being of the environment and the respiratory health of people, but also we can greatly increase our overall physical health.

Cycling takes a measure, big or small depending on the length that we travel while cycling, of physical strength and endurance. It also takes a measure of determination and discipline. By trading a vehicle for a bicycle, even if it is just once or twice every so often, we are able to get some exercise. This gives us the opportunity to build stamina, strengthen our muscular structure, get an aerobic workout, and experience the mental clarity you are able to get while enjoying the great bicycle ride.

Although there are many ways to go green, cycling is more than worthy of consideration. Besides helping with saving what is left our healthy earth, there are more great perks and benefits to make adding cycling into our routines look very appealing.
