How to Make Alternative Energy

The world is finally starting to see the folly of its ways, and “going green” is a practice sought by people and governments alike. In our earth friendly efforts, we are now learning how to make alternative energy, and headway is definitely being made. There are a number of methods that are now being used to make alternative energy.

Landfill Gas to Energy

This is a process that collects the methane being emitted from landfills, and it can be converted into electricity. This is a fairly new concept, and there are about 480 landfills currently utilizing this technique. More sites are being scouted for future development.

Hydro Energy

This method involves using water power to generate electricity. An example of this would be a dam. This renewable energy source has been known about and utilized for quite some time now. It is a very clean source of energy, but it has the possibility of disturbing certain environments.

Human Waste to Energy

That’s right! On our mission learning how to make alternative energy, we have developed a procedure that allows us to convert raw human sewage into a viable energy source. This technology is still in its infancy, and plans for expansion are under way.

Wind Energy

This is possibly the cleanest source of renewable energy we have, and it involves using wind power to generate electricity. An example of this would be a windmill. This energy source has also been used for quite some time now, and residential windmills can actually be bought and set up in a homeowner’s backyard.

We’re learning how to make alternative energy, and it’s starting to become affordable for homeowners to take advantage of as well. There is possibly a global transformation going on, and it will ultimately lead to a healthier planet.

Green Living Should Be a Goal Regardless of Politics

Liberals and conservatives don’t seem to have much common ground these days. In the USA, red-state voters (conservatives) and blue-state voters (liberals) rarely agree on key issues. Outside the United States, the amount of agreement is not much better.

The issue of climate change is a case in point. It is almost a given that activists in favor legislation and laws to prevent global warming are always from the left of the political spectrum. Conversely, those with doubts about the extent to which global warming is caused by man-made activities criticize global green movements like the Kyoto Protocols as economic boondoggles that will cripple the economies of developed nations in a hopeless attempt to combat global warming. (I won’t call these people by the pejorative term “climate change deniers,” since many acknowledge that the climate is warming. They just contend that the process is dominated by natural factors that are outside the control of humans.)

But, whether you believe that human-caused global warming is a fact or not, I think that green living is an issue that should transcend politics.

Even those who disagree about climate change should agree on the need for living a greener lifestyle. That means an agreement on reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, conserving resources like water, and reducing the amount of waste going to landfills. The three Rs-reduce, reuse, recycle-should not have a political affiliation.

Here is why.

Consider this fact. Currently 85% of the energy needs in the United States are derived from fossil fuels. The exact break down is 40% from petroleum, 23% from coal, and 22% from natural gas. Only the remaining 15% are produced from cleaner alternatives that include nuclear, hydroelectric, biofuels, and solar.

A person from the left believes with every fiber of his or her being that humans are creating global warming due to carbon emissions. The burning of all types of fossil fuels, including petroleum, natural gas, and coal, are responsible for most of the warming effect. An important part of the steps to combat global warming is to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels by replacing them with lower-emitting alternatives, or possibly, to employ carbon capture and storage technology to trap the carbon and keep it out of the atmosphere.

A person from the right has a different primary incentive to support greener alternatives to fossil fuels. The conservative feels that the overuse of fossil fuels is an issue of national security, creating a dependence on major suppliers of petroleum that are hostile to western countries and wish to undermine their prosperity.

Reducing dependence on fossil fuels in favor of renewable alternatives meets the needs of both the right and the left.

People can continue to disagree on the politics. But let’s all agree on the need for actions supporting greener living that people from both sides of the political spectrum can come together on, even if they support the need for a greener economy and greener lifestyles for different reasons.
