Renewable Energy Systems – How NOT To Spend Indiscriminately, Throwing Cash Into the Dustbin Instead

Did you know that all over the world amounts of fossil fuels are threatened?

Governments and environmentalists are beginning to educate people that in order to maintain supplies and levels something needs to be done urgently. Renewable energy systems have long been recognized as being a possible source of power which has great advantages for use as world energy.

Fossil fuels have been proven to have a powerful negative impact on the environment.

There is an unarguable link between the use of fossil fuels and the presence of global warming. Global warming has direct influence over weather including heat waves, hurricanes, droughts and other phenomenon; it also affects human and animal life.

For individuals interested in learning more regarding the powerful impact of global warming, various documentaries are available for viewing; one recommendation is ‘An Inconvenient Truth’. Following viewing of this film many people find they are shocked and become better informed, which is reflected by the increase of people who then want to incorporate renewable energy systems into the design of their home whether building new, or just wanting to accommodate small changes to make a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly home.

Renewable energy has many advantages.

One of the most noteworthy is it’s provision of a clean green form of energy which has a low carbon footprint emission. More and more people are paying attention to these benefits and so the use of renewable energy systems such as solar power, geothermal and wind energy is rapidly rising.

An increasing number of jobs are being created using renewable energy and in particular wind farms; these have been predicted to stay in the United Kingdom too. The majority of these jobs offer competitive salary and benefits.

Government Incentives and Schemes

The U.K. Government has taken note of the above and therefore offers some interesting schemes and incentive programs for people who chose to install renewable energy systems into their homes. These include Solar Panel grants, tax credits and a new ‘Renewable Heat Incentive’ which will be in place by April 2011.

If alternative energy sources such as renewable energy are easily and more affordably available, increasing numbers of people will be inclined to install this into their homes in order to help protect the environment from further damage and global warming. Often the people who choose to install renewable energy systems are those who promote green living; recycling, walking or cycling, no air travel. The majority of these people are often responsible for trying to make the world a better, more eco-friendly world to live in.

Every year, National Geographic publishes a Green Guide which provides interesting and informative information on green issues, plus a listing of the world’s top 10 cities. Is your city going to be in this year’s guide?

The advantages of renewable energy are inexhaustible. However, when looking at the advantages, it is also necessary to be aware of the disadvantages. The main one being cost, although the price of installing renewable energy is reflected by the environment and in the long term personal finance,. In the short term, and when initially installing these systems, outgoings are so high with no visible benefits until 10-12 years, it often competes against the advantages of installing renewable energy technology. Until cost can be reduced, only people that have disposable cash will be able to afford the £15,000 it can cost to install a solar energy system.

Resources For Alternative Energy

3631370533 23bb68fc8a m Resources For Alternative Energy
by robhowells87

One of these is solar power. Solar power is driven by photovoltaic cells, and these are progressively getting less expensive and more advanced. Solar energy power can be used for electricity, heating, and making hot water. Solar energy produces no pollution, as its input comes completely from the sun’s rays. However, much more work still needs to be done in order for us to economically harness the sun’s energy. For the time being, the resource is a little too conditional—storage batteries are needed to be used as backups in the evenings and on inclement days.

Wind energy has become the most-invested-in (by private investors and governments together) alternative energy source for the time being. The great arrays of triple-bladed windmills are being placed all over as “wind farms”, to capture the motion of the wind and use its kinetic energy for conversion to mechanical or electrical energy. Of course, there is nothing new about the concept of a windmill for harnessing energy.

Modern wind turbines are simply are more advanced variations on the old theme. Of course, the drawback to wind energy is…what do you do when there is a calm, still day? Needless to say, during these times the electric company kicks in for powering your home or office. Wind energy is not altogether independent.

Hydroelectric energy is available as a source of alternative energy, and it can generate a substantial amount of power. Simply put, hydroelectric energy uses the motion of water—its flow in response to gravity, which means downhill—to turn turbines which then generate electrical energy. Needless to say, water is ubiquitous; finding sources for driving hydroelectric turbines is, therefore, not much of a problem.

However, hydroelectricity as a source of alternative energy can be complicated and expensive to produce. Dams are often built in order to be able to control the flow of the water sufficiently to generate the needed power. Building a dam to store and control water’s potential and kinetic energy takes quite a lot of work, and operating one is complex as well, and conservationists grow concerned that it. Of course, a dam is not always needed if one is not trying to supply the electrical needs of a city or other very densely populated area. There are small run-of-river hydroelectric converters which are good for supplying neighborhoods or an individual office or home.

Probably the most underrated and under-appreciated form of alternative energy is geothermal energy, which is simply the naturally-occurring energy produced by the heating of artesian waters that are just below the earth’s crust. This heat is transferred into the water from the earth’s inner molten core.

The water is drawn up by various different methods—there are “dry steam” power plants, “flash” power plants, and “binary” power plants for harnessing geothermal energy. The purpose of drawing up the hot water is for the gathering of the steam.  The Geysers, approximately 100 miles north of San Francisco, is probably the best-known of all geothermal power fields; it’s an example of a dry stream plant.

Arrr Today’s episode, too much important information for a quickie, is about you generating your own electricity. I have always been interested in what most people like to call, “alternative living and alternative power.” Aye, we be livin’ on a frickin’ sailboat and we lived for 11 continuous months completely self-sufficient with our Off-Grid electrical system. In an earlier video we discussed the basics of, why and how you go Off-Grid. I’ll make it a video response so you can watch it later. This video will be more hands on. In today’s crazy unpredictable world generating your own renewable electricity for your sailboat, motorhome, remote camp, and even your current home will make you independent of big power companies. No more worrying about price increases and power outages. OK, let’s get to it. A “Hybrid” system is a
